Reaching Out!

It has now been almost two weeks since I registered to run as a candidate for Mayor, in the upcoming by-election on January 24th, 2022.  It has been an exhilarating and exciting two weeks, as we have started to set up our campaign team, put together our first campaign communication pieces, organized our first virtual volunteer information session and undertaken our first two days of door to door canvassing.  Along the way, I have had some great conversations with many residents and other stakeholders. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to reach out, in any way, to provide messages of support, thoughts on issues that concern them, and ideas on how we can run the best campaign possible – all feedback and input is greatly appreciated!

The team and I are working very hard to meet this challenge, but we cannot do it without all of you. Whether it is talking to your neighbours, family/friends, book club group or just someone you chat with in the grocery store line, we need your help in spreading the word about my campaign.  We are working hard to ensure that information on my vision, platform, etc. is being updated on a regular basis on my website at, so any time you have the chance to share that website is another opportunity for us to connect with people across the city.

We are also very, very keen on organizing small virtual meetings with groups of friends, neighbours, community groups, faith groups, etc. The purpose of these is to have an opportunity to engage in dialogue with people across the City. While COVID-19 protocols and concerns may limit our face-to-face meetings, having a “coffee chat”, with small groups, is an amazing way for them to get to know me and, even more importantly, for me to hear what the concerns and issues are for groups across Richmond Hill.

Just as importantly, we need to continue to build on our amazing team of volunteers and supporters. We have set up a page on the website where people can go to:

  • Request a lawn sign (this will become a very important way for us to spread the word about my candidacy AND the by-election itself.
  • Sign up for our newsletter/e-blasts and other announcements/information.
  • Sign up to volunteer for the campaign.
  • Donate to the campaign

This last item brings me to my final ask.   It takes money to run a campaign and, as most of you will be aware, we were only allowed to solicit donations, do fundraising, etc. after the by-election was officially declared, and I had registered as a candidate.  Brochures and signs are going to be a key part of letting people know about my candidacy and, it is only when people are aware of my candidacy, that I can engage them to, hopefully, support me.  So, my final ask for today is this. If you can donate to my campaign, any amount would be greatly appreciated. It is my sincere hope that this campaign will truly be a “grassroots” campaign, where individual contributions, no matter what the amount, will form the majority of my funding.  Just as importantly, if you can spread the word about making donations to the campaign, I would be forever grateful.

If you would like to make a donation by credit card through our secure payment site, please click here:

If you would prefer to donate by cheque, please click here, complete the form it, attach your cheque and mail to the address on the form.

Thank you again to everyone for your on-going support and words of encouragement. I could not do this without you!
