As a long-time resident of Richmond Hill’s Ward 4, I’ve participated in ten municipal elections that have resulted in the creation of ten diverse councils across nearly forty years. Each time, I’ve  placed my trust in the belief that, as a community, we can (and must) aspire to elect individuals who would best represent the character attributes we value – those who will consider the interests of all Richmond Hill residents, work respectfully as a team, model integrity and collaboration and still embody the compassion and kindness that is so very necessary in these difficult times.

That type of council requires leadership that values collaboration and consensus-building – a Mayor who sees and nurtures talent, both established and nascent, and creates opportunities for those who care about building a whole and complete community in which we care for one another and the environment for which we are all responsible.

In that spirit, I offer my heartfelt support for our current Mayor, David West, that he may continue the great work he has done leading an amazingly productive, respectful and functional council and steering Richmond Hill through some of the most turbulent times, both politically and socially.

I’ve known David for over 30 years, initially in business and later, serving on the Winter Carnival Committee along with many other community-facing initiatives and I’ve come to truly appreciate his hard work, optimism and integrity. His good nature and openness are refreshing leadership qualities in an increasingly cynical world.

I want to ensure we elect the people who best reflect the character we wish to see in this city. With that in mind, I will be casting my vote for David West for Mayor

Sincerely,
